sample build : ESXi-bandit 3.5u4
A 4 Gb USB-stick
with MOA and the latest ESX-administration tools may boot into a screen like this ...
The stick boots on hosts with 512 Mb RAM or more ... and it needs NO ramdrive
list of "features" :
Workstation 6.5.2 / 6.0.5 selectable at boot-time
Virtualbox
VI-client for ESX 3.5u4
Powershell
ViToolkit
RemoteCli
Virtual Disk Developement Kit
VEEAM FastSCP Beta 3
TRILEAD VMXplorer
Internet Explorer 6,7 and 8
Firefox 2 and 3
Nmap
Wireshark
Starwind / Starport iSCSI
NFS-server
"buildin" VMs :
ESXi and m0n0wall
The layout of the stick looks like this
As you may see all your private data is inside a truecrypt-container - a thief of the stick can not look at your files or VMs
Work required to build one yourself ...
over the thumb maybe 3 hours of installations until you have the stuff from the screenshot above ...
In case you want instructions for this sample build vote
- 10 votes and I start writing

Hi.
Great sample build!
I have installed a Trial of VMware Workstation and It will stop working within hours. Isn't there a vmware link to download VMware-viclient.exe instead? Or a way to extract VMware-viclient.exe from installation without installing anything?
I tried Vmware server 2.0 before but I prefer version 1.
Can I use Vmware server 1 to do what You say?

Hi
you can use Workstation without license.
Without license you use the vmware.exe GUI to create, configure and edit VMs.
But you MUST run them in vmplayer.exe
.. and no - VMserver 1 will not work
I hope you have voted
Ulli
oops - forgot one thing ...
Yes - you can extract the viclient from the ESXi-setup-iso - you will need 7zip
- extract the iso
- extract install.gz
- extract VMware-VMvisor-big-3.5.0_Update_4-153875.i386.dd.bz2
- open with winimage : VMware-VMvisor-big-3.5.0_Update_4-153875.i386.dd
- select largest partition - now you should see this

Hi.
Thank You.
I voted! (Vote number nine)
By the way, I have the same exact usb key.
I collected from xenocode:
chrome.exe
firefox.exe
firefox2.exe
ie6.exe
ie7.exe
ie8.exe
opera.exe
safari.exe
adobe.exe wasn't there. It's a pity.
I completed the list of needed files finally.
About MOA setup, are these files all the needed ones?
moa24-corefiles.zip
moa24-dev-vm.zip
moa24-drivers.zip
moa24-update-plugin.zip
pebuilder3110a.zip

- you know that that one is not a fast one ?
After some initial problems with this one
I now love it - its pretty fast
I am about to record a video of the building procedure - hope to post it tomorrow
